ProduKey is a software utility that shows you the product keys for many Microsoft applications installed on your computer. It can show you the Windows edition you're currently running as well as the product key for your particular installation. It should also show you the location where each of these applications are installed.

When you first run ProduKey, the application will scan your computer in order to show you the registration information for Windows. You should be able to get the entire Genuine Advantage key code as well as the registration number for your specific installation. Only specific hardware models will ever balk at this scan, meaning that ProduKey should work with an overwhelming majority of configurations.

Unlike most product key search solutions, ProduKey can actually show you other information as well. Users will be able to see any keys associated with Microsoft Office as well as Exchange Server. If they have these applications installed, then the software should be able to find the registration numbers for them as well. SQL Server users will also find that their key codes are clearly displayed on the app's properties sheet.

While these features are probably most attractive to business users and software developers, they're quite useful because they're a great way to rescue a lost installation in case you've lost the original documentation that came with your kit. An additional options menu gives you the freedom to restrict which information ProduKey displays, in case it starts to overload you with raw data.

Network administrators can see information about every machine attached to a token ring or LAN. ProduKey will search information found on all computers in a specific domain or even all of the machines in a certain range of IP addresses. Particularly savvy users might be able to search through results collected from multiple devices attached to the web. Though it's not designed to bypass security checks, ProduKey can nevertheless deliver information about every machine that a sysop has legitimate access to.

Perhaps most impressive is the fact that ProduKey can actually search through an external registry hive on a local machine. Some installers will attempt to shadow the product key when it stores them in the registry. By scanning these locations, ProduKey can still find shadowed information and show it alongside everything else that the app has to offer. Those who often repair computers considered lost causes might want to include it on their recovery USB disk for this reason.

Everyone else should still find that ProduKey is a rather useful utility for getting them out of some very sticky situations.
